In India there are 10 Himalayan states and 2 partial hill states.

- Middle Himalaya
- Lower Himalaya
- In greater Himalayas there are highest peaks like Mount Everest the highest peak of the world lie in greater Himalayan range.In this range all the peaks or mountain are cover with snow and glacier, there are very less possibility of life. only some species are survived in this cold region.
- The second one is middle Himalayan range now the forest will started from here. The height of mountains are reduce in this region and the climate is less colder then greater Himalayan range. In this range the presence of lot numbers of species of plants and animals.
- Last one is lower himalayan range this range is suitable for settlement of humans. In this region the climate is suitable for humans and after this the plains are started. This range is also known as shivalik.
